Yesterday I had a little tent in the new Family Zone area of this year’s Circle City Pride Festival. And I really lucked-out: not only was I in the shade (it was a steamy-nearly-90′ day and I didn’t get hot at all!), but I was right between a bunch of sugary sweet vendors: Wicked_Suga, Gigi’s Cupcakes, and Kona Ice — so I got to meet a TON of people while they enjoyed their yummy treats!
The Family Zone was awesome! In addition to all the gourmet confections there were multiple bounce houses (one appeared to be an obstacle course), a huge learning tent where kids could dress-up and play in other cool stations, a stage with fun music, and lots of amazing vendors — including a “kiss a pit bull” tent (OMG the most adorable pit puppies, too!) from Indy Pit Crew and a dance studio with amazingly talented kids dancing and performing acrobatics outside of their tent all day!
WFYI brought along some PBS Kids stars like Super Why and Wonder Red who walked around and took photos with the kids. There were face painters AND I saw a lot of kids (and adults) who had some sort of glitter treatment in their hair from the same booth (btw: if you or your child was one of those glitter-hair people, I’d LOVE to hear how it washes out! Comment below and let me know! I foresee both of my kids wanting that in the future…), which sparkled in the sunshine and was really fun.
Many families set up blankets and chairs and spent the afternoon socializing, listening to music, and just hanging out. Everything was perfect.
I brought a backdrop, had plans for a cute little colorful setup, and planned to do a free “photo booth”, but it didn’t work out in my tent. I wasn’t sad about that, though, because we had the PERFECT lighting all afternoon under the trees right behind my tent — and the resulting photos are more my style anyway. It was SO MUCH FUN, too!!
Even though I had a bunch of fun this year, next year instead of having my own tent, I’ll be returning with my own family. We’ve taken our kids to Indy Pride the past 3 years and they were both disappointed to miss the “rainbow love parade” this year since my husband couldn’t take them… and after experiencing how great the new Family Zone is, next year we’re both blocking our calendars so our whole family can be there all together all day!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say “hey”, get a photo, and enter my giveaway for a free mini session! My daughter will be drawing a winner and I’ll email them TONIGHT! Watch for it!
Below are about half of the photos I took yesterday, and here’s the link to the entire gallery for anyone who want to download their own photos: http://proofing.lissasmith.com/pride2017
